The Secretary General of UN Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday condemned the attack on the hybrid UN and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
“The Secretary General condemns the attack by armed assailants unidentified against a convoy of UNAMID police officer who was returning from a patrol aimed at building confidence in Nyala, South Darfur, told reporters in New York spokeswoman for Ban, Marie Okabe.
The peacekeepers were returning from the camp al-Sherif to assist IDPs in South Darfur, Sudan, Tuesday when they came under attack. Seven of the eight officers constituting the escort were wounded during the firefight.
“The secretary general calls on the GoS to initiate an immediate investigation into this incident and ensure that perpetrators are quickly identified and brought to justice,” she said.
